3rd Annual Food Drive

This Saturday we will complete our 3rd annual food drive at the Payson Church of Christ.  This year will be the biggest and most successful drive we have been involved in to date.  This year it was brought to our attention that  more than 300  children in Payson were without proper housing.  The school system could not provide names of these children due to privacy issues.  However, they did provide the name and number of the church to the families of those who had needs.  As a result of what they did the number of those we are able to help is substantially more than in previous years.

This year we will be helping 55 families.  These families consist of 242 individuals.  We cannot meet all long-term needs but we will be able to help with an immediate need by supplying food.

Two great things stood out in this effort.  First,  we have substantially more people involved in this  work than we have had in previous years.  This work not only has helped those in need but has helped this church family as well.  This effort has drawn us together as we do His will in this community. Unity in the church family is vital.  This group is more determined and united now than at any time I have worked with this church.  I can’t tell you how excited and encouraged this makes me. Second, of the 55 families to whom we are taking food, 24 have requested a visit in their home to discuss spiritual matters.  Only God knows the great results that will be seen in this community.  He promised that if we cast our bread upon the water that it would not come back void.

In Jesus day there was a reason He went about doing good.  When He did good he drew the world to the Father.  It is past time we learn  the most important things involving the church do not take place between 11 and 12 o’clock on Sunday morning!  If we are going to please the Father we must be willing to give of ourselves.  Scripture refers to us as the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  Salt and light makes things better.  If we are to fulfill this description we must as individual Christians and the church make our respective communities better.  When we do good works for those in need we open doors for the preaching of Jesus Christ.

It isn’t what we do between 11 and 12 on Sunday morning that changes the world.  It is what we do outside the walls of the building that promotes the cause of Jesus Christ.   Instead of closing doors through our arrogance let’s open doors by our service!  Think on these things!

It was a blessed day! It is great to have everyone come together for such good. Wow, everyone worked hard to fill all the boxes with food today. I’m looking forward to meeting and visiting these families. Thanks to God for all these blessings. Thank you Dell for the words of encouragement. Guy and the rest of the Food Drive Committee GREAT JOB!

I am impressed at how wonderfully and effectively the Young Adults who made up this year’s Food Drive made this whole adventure such a positive success. It was the youth of the church family that turned away from the doubts and fears of many and put their trust in God that the needed funds would arrive and that the people in the community would not be turned away. It is my goal to post more about this year’s Food Drive, Saturday night, on my blog as soon as I have complied all of the demographics.

  4. Guy, Great Job putting this together! The best is yet to come!
